#DIYgravel - Belgian Waffle Ride

Hi All!

The southern California monster ride, Belgian Waffle Ride was on our calendar for May 3. With #DIYgravel, though, we got to stretch the fun for a full week from May 3-May 10.

I’d like to share our DIYgravel-BWR experience here from the King household in this video — or click the “King of the Ride” image right/below. Ansel was along for the trip and helped capture how I got my DIY ride on May 3 and Laura got hers four days later. We fit it all in with our two month old daughter, Hazel, in tow. This video is a quick summary into how we fit it in — albeit with typical new parent sleep deprivation. Zzzzz…

Round Two Wrap-Up:

We now have well over 2,000 submissions and 1,000 people joining the fun from all around the world. One cool way to truly see the various rides is to follow the #DIYgravel hashtag.

Congratulations to our randomly drawn prize winners from this week:

Haley R, Jason R, Scott T, Ryan U, Juan R, Darin, Joanne G, Ryan K, Pamela B, Steven H, and Caroline O all took home prizes from DIYgravel’s best-in-cycling biz supporters.

In alphabetical order, a huge bit of thanks goes out to:

Cannondale

Rene Herse
Saris
SRAM
ROKA

NEXT UP:

Round three of DIYgravel is R3G3 originally scheduled for May 23. I was pumped to head north of the border, eat some french fries & gravy, and join this event hosted by the very friendly crew at Gravel Cup Canada. Alas, coronavirus and all has thrown a wrench in that plan, so let’s start DIYgravel R3G3!

R3G3 features the following wicked good distances:

Epic 104 miles, 168km

Challenge 57 miles, 94km

Sport 36 miles, 60km

Family Grind 10 miles, 17km

Slight rule change:

Entries are ALWAYS WELCOME, here. So as soon as one event ends, we’ll kickstart the next one. This R3G3 runs May 11-29, at which point we kick off DIYgravel-Dirty Kanza (good stuff there, stay tuned).

Two more notes:

A lot of you have reached out asking about a benevolent component of this event. Rest assured that I have something very worthy and very heartwarming to unveil here shortly. Stay tuned.

And if anyone reading this has background in graphic design, I have an idea I’d like to run by you. Reach out and say hi, please.
